Bhuvan Bam on first quarter of 21st century: Bollywood earlier felt distant

Mumbai, Dec 27 – Actor‑creator Bhuvan Bam said that the most noticeable shift in the entertainment industry during the first quarter of the 2000s has been the rise of accessibility.

In an interview with IANS, the YouTube star explained how, until recently, Bollywood felt like a distant, almost exclusive world. “For me, the biggest shift is access,” Bhuvan remarked. “Bollywood earlier felt distant and almost closed off. Today, audiences are part of the journey right from the start. Technology and digital platforms have completely changed how stories are found, shared, and talked about.”

He added that viewers are no longer passive spectators. “What surprised me most is how adaptable audiences are. They move easily between a phone screen and a theatre, between short‑form content and full‑length films,” Bam said. “People participate, react, and respond, and that’s pushed creators to be more honest and more fearless.”

Bam first gained attention with the 2016 music video “Teri Meri Kahani,” which he performed himself. Since then he has released a string of songs such as “Sang Hoon Tere,” “Safar,” “Rahguzaar,” “Bas Mein,” “Ajnabee,” and “Heer Ranjha.” He also appeared in the short film Plus Minus alongside Divya Dutta.

In 2018, he launched the YouTube series Titu Talks, a comedy interview format starring his character Titu Mama. The debut episode featured Bollywood legend Shah Rukh Khan. His 2021 web series Dhindora ran for eight episodes and included Bhuvan’s own tracks “Saazish” and “Bann Gayi Zindagi.” In 2023, he stepped onto the OTT stage with Taaza Khabar and Rafta Rafta.

Looking ahead, Bhuvan is set to appear in The Revolutionaries, a period drama web series helmed by Nikkhil Advani. The show is adapted from Sanjeev Sanyal’s nonfiction book Revolutionaries: The Other Story Of How India Won Its Freedom and chronicles the lives of young Indian fighters who believed armed resistance was key to ending British colonial rule.
