India’s thrilling five-wicket victory over Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2025 final has cricket fans buzzing, but Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan added his own fun twist to the celebration. The megastar took a lighthearted jab at former Pakistani bowler Shoaib Akhtar, who accidentally mixed up the names of Indian cricketer Abhishek Sharma and actor Abhishek Bachchan during a TV analysis.
The mix-up happened on Shoaib’s show, Game On Hai, where he chatted about Pakistan’s strategy against India in the Asia Cup final. Shoaib said something like, “If we get Abhishek Bachchan out early, what will happen to their middle order? It hasn’t been performing well.” But he meant the young opener Abhishek Sharma, who’s been starring for Team India.
Actor Abhishek Bachchan caught wind of it and fired back with humor on social media: “Sir, with all due respect… don’t think they’ll even manage that! And I’m not even good at playing cricket.”
Amitabh jumped in too, celebrating India’s win with a cheeky tweet on X. He wrote: “Jeet gaye!! .. well played ‘Abhishek Bachchan’ .. udhar zubaan ladkhadai, aur idhar, bina batting bowling fielding kiye, ladkhada diya dushman ko!! Bolti band.” Loosely translated, it’s like: “We won!! Well played, Abhishek Bachchan… On one side, the tongue stumbled, and on the other, without batting, bowling, or fielding, we made the opponent falter!! Silence reigns.”
The match itself was a classic India-Pakistan showdown at Dubai International Stadium. Pakistan looked set for a big score, reaching 113/1 in just 12.4 overs thanks to fifties from Sahibzada Farhan (57) and Fakhar Zaman (46). But India’s spinners turned the game around. Kuldeep Yadav stole the show with a four-wicket haul, sparking a collapse where Pakistan lost nine wickets for only 33 runs. They ended up all out for 146 in 19.1 overs.
