MUMBAI — Actor Bobby Deol recently opened up about his three-decade friendship with Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, sharing warm insights during promotions for the new streaming series The Bastards of Bollywood.
Directed by SRK’s elder son, Aryan Khan, the OTT show stars Bobby as Ajay Talwar. In a chat with in Mumbai’s bustling BKC area, Bobby reflected on what makes SRK so special after all these years.
"The kind of person Shah Rukh is, that’s why he’s where he is today," Bobby said. "He’s very grounded and a real family man. I bet the main thing driving him is wanting to be there for his family—something every parent gets. We’ve not stayed in touch much over these 30 years, but when we meet, it never feels like time apart."
He added that SRK always makes people feel valued. "Every time, he showers you with love and affection—it means the world. He’s gone out of his way for others, even as a massive star. He hasn’t lost that kindness, and that’s incredible. Everyone, including my co-stars who admire him, should remember to hold onto their humanity no matter how big they get."
Bobby’s bond with the Khan family runs deep, influencing his quick decision to join the show. He revealed earlier how a simple call from SRK’s production house, Red Chillies Entertainment, sealed the deal.
"When they called and said they’re producing this series with Aryan directing, I just said, ‘I’m in,’" Bobby shared. He didn’t even wait for the script details. "I get what every dad wants—to support his kid’s first steps in the industry. I could see what Shah Rukh must feel with Aryan diving into Bollywood like this."
Fans of Bollywood friendships and family stories will love hearing more about these industry icons.
