The buzz around Chennai’s upcoming action‑blockbuster Peddi just got louder. Director Buchi Babu Sana has revealed the secret behind the title of the film’s first single, “Chikri.” The track, sung by Mohit Chauhan, will drop worldwide on March 27, 2026, the same day as superstar Ram Charan’s birthday.
In a lively video shared by A.R. Rahman on his X timeline, the composer and Buchi Babu Sana trade jokes and trade‑of trivia about the film’s music. Rahman asked, “What is #Chikiri?” and the director answered with a smile. He explained that “Chikri” is the affectionate nickname locals give to pretty young women in the village where the hero first sees the heroine. “The men in the hero’s village call the pretty women ‘Chikiri,’ and that’s where the song begins,” Sana said. The phrase adds a local flavour and gives the track a playful edge.
Rahman and the director also shared a behind‑the‑scenes moment where Rahman asked why Sana was not at a cricket ground. Sana replied, “This time, we don’t intend to play. We are here for the song.” The clip shows the two swapping chairs and laughing, a light‑hearted glimpse of the team’s camaraderie.
Peddi is a big‑budget, Pan‑India action film that follows Ram Charan as a village hero who falls for a village girl named Achiyyamma, played by Janhvi Kapoor. The movie also stars Kannada star Shiva Rajkumar, and the award‑winning veterans Jagapathi Babu and Divyendu Sharma occupy key roles.
Technical excellence is in the mix too. Cinematographer R Rathnavelu brings fresh visuals, while editor Navin Nooli keeps the pacing tight. With sound design led by Rahman, the soundtrack is set to become a hit even before the film’s opening.
The production team is pushing hard to stay on schedule. The release on March 27, 2026 is planned to hit theatres across India, marking another major marker for Ram Charan’s storied career. As fans await the film’s launch, the new track “Chikri” is already becoming a trending conversation on social media, offering a teaser of the high‑energy drama that awaits on the big screen.
