Great news for Tamil cinema fans! The upcoming film ‘Gandhi Kannadi’ has received the official approval from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The movie, directed by Sherief, is set to hit theaters on September 5 and has been awarded a clean ‘U’ certificate, making it perfect for viewers of all ages.

Starring comedian Bala, popularly known from ‘Kalakka Povadhu Yaaru’ (KPY), this film marks his debut as a hero. Bard from real-life events, ‘Gandhi Kannadi’ promises to be a touching, feel-good emotional drama packed with family-friendly entertainment.

Produced by Jayi Kiran of Adhimulam Creations, the film’s poster confirming the ‘U’ certificate was shared late on Tuesday night. Along with the announcement, the production team tweeted, “Love blooms this September. #GandhiKannadi — a wholesome family entertainer arriving in theatres! Directed by Sherief, with music by Vivek–Mervin. Starring Bala, coming to screens worldwide from September 5th.”

Director Sherief, known for his gripping thriller ‘Ranam Aram Thavarel’, has written the story and screenplay for ‘Gandhi Kannadi’. The movie is based on a true story and aims to be an emotional, feel-good journey for audiences. Shooting has been completed, and post-production work is in full swing.

Producer Jayi Kiran shared his excitement, saying, “Gandhi Kannadi is not just our first film — it’s a story that moved me deeply. The sincerity and emotion in the script made me want to bring it to life. I’m very proud of the cast and crew who have poured their hearts into this project. With Bala in a powerful role and a talented team behind the scenes, I believe we’ve created something truly special.”

Bala, known for his humor and human touch, is making his debut as the lead in this heartfelt drama. He portrays an emotionally rich character, aiming to connect with viewers on a deep level.

Sherief shared his thoughts too, saying, “Gandhi Kannadi is very personal to me. After directing ‘Ranam Aram Thavarel’, I wanted to tell a more uplifting and grounded story. When the producer instantly approved the idea, I knew we had something special. With notable stars like Balaji Sakthivel, Archana Ma’am—both National Award winners—and actress Namitha in key roles, I’m confident this film will resonate with audiences.”

Fans are eagerly waiting for this movie, which promises to be a warm, emotional experience suitable for the whole family. Mark your calendars for September 5, when ‘Gandhi Kannadi’ will hit theaters nationwide!
