The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has signed off on Rahul Sadasivan’s horror‑thriller Dies Irae, giving it an “A” rating. The film will hit theatres worldwide on 31 October, just in time for Halloween.
Dies Irae stars Pranav Mohanlal in the lead role. The movie, which started life on social media as #NSS2, was produced by All Night Shifts and Studio Synot. The production house announced the news on Instagram: “#DIESIRAE Certified ‘A’! In Cinemas Worldwide from 31st October. #DIESIRAE Starring @pranavmohanlal Written & Directed by @rahul_madking. Produced By @chakdyn @sash041075.”
The film has been a talked‑about title since its launch announcement, and a new trailer dropped recently that gives a taste of the eerie tension. It opens with an older woman warning a man that he should have spoken up when something was wrong with their child. The man deflects, saying, “What will people think?” The woman replies, “And now, didn’t that feeling turn out to be true?” The child, played by Pranav, is the only son of a family that neighbours label cursed. He experiences strange events but feels no one will believe him.
Dies Irae claims to be based on true incidents and promises a chilling Halloween hit. The same creative team that made the Malayalam horror classic Brammayugam – starring Mammootty – backs this new film. Director Rahul Sadasivan is known for the critically acclaimed period horror Brammayugam, which was shot in black and white and set in Kerala’s dark ages.
Production notes: filming began the last week of March in Vadakara, Calicut. The crew aimed to wrap the shoot in 40 days and finished earlier, in April. Chief cinematographer Shehnad Jalal, who earned praise for Brammayugam, and art director Jothish Shankar join the team. Editor Shafique Mohammed Ali, who previously edited Brammayugam, handles the cutting.
With Pranav Mohanlal’s star power and a strong team from Brammayugam, Dies Irae is set to deliver a sharp, atmospheric horror story that fans of Kerala cinema and beyond are already eager to see.
