Malayalam superstar Mohanlal is making headlines after the Indian government announced he’s receiving the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award for 2023. This honor recognizes his outstanding contributions to Indian cinema, and it’s set to be presented at the 71st National Film Awards on September 23.

The news has sparked excitement across the film industry. Telugu icon Chiranjeevi shared a warm message on X, posting a photo with Mohanlal. “My dear Lalettan @Mohanlal, heartfelt congratulations on the Dadasaheb Phalke Award,” he wrote. “Your remarkable journey and iconic performances have enriched Indian cinema. Truly well-deserved!”

Kannada star Kichcha Sudeep also jumped in with praise on X. “Legends like @Mohanlal Sir turn every frame into magic,” he said. “Heartfelt congratulations on the Dadasaheb Phalke Award—a well-earned salute to decades of unmatched cinema. #Mohanlal #DadasahebPhalkeAward.”

Veteran cinematographer P.C. Sreeram, known for his work with director Mani Ratnam, added his congratulations too. “In each of your films, you mesmerized the world,” he posted on X. “Indian cinema is always proud of you. Heartiest congratulations to the one and only @Mohanlal on winning the most prestigious #DadasahebPhalkeAward. May the force be with you always.”

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting made the official announcement on Saturday via X. “On the recommendation of the Dadasaheb Phalke Award Selection Committee, the Government of India is pleased to announce that Shri Mohanlal will be conferred the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award 2023,” they stated. They highlighted Mohanlal’s inspiring career, calling him a legendary actor, director, and producer whose talent and hard work have shaped Indian film history.

Mohanlal’s achievements don’t stop there. The government previously awarded him the Padma Shri in 2001 and the Padma Bhushan in 2019 for his work in cinema. In 2009, he became the first Indian actor to earn an honorary rank of lieutenant colonel in the Territorial Army.

Fans and fellow stars alike are celebrating this milestone for the versatile Mohanlal, whose films continue to captivate audiences in Malayalam and beyond.
