Dakota Johnson says she isn’t bothered by critics who label her sheer dresses “too sexy.” The 36‑year‑old Hollywood star, who just appeared on the cover of Vogue Germany’s November issue, explained during a recent interview that she picks her gowns based on fit, finish and color, not on public opinion.
In a candid swipe at those who think she should cover up more, Johnson replied simply, “I really don’t care.” She added that she loves the look of a “sexy dress” and enjoys the freedom it gives her on the red carpet. “If it feels beautiful and I feel comfortable, I wear it,” she said.
Johnson’s love for almost‑nude outfits isn’t just about daring fashion. She grew up with an open conversation about body image from her mother, actress Melanie Griffith. “My mom taught us how to love our bodies,” she recalled. “We’re told by everyone else that we’re not good enough, so that was a huge gift.”
The actress has been turning heads in sheer gowns for months. At the Zurich Film Festival she wore a striking blue lace Gucci dress that left less to the imagination. Earlier in New York City, she slipped into a black lace Gucci top that revealed a balconette bra underneath. For Late Night with Seth Meyers Johnson chose a see‑through black mesh dress by Nensi Dojaka, and at Cannes she dazzled in a glittery, transparent Gucci gown.
Johnson’s confidence in her style, whether she’s wearing a barely‑there look or a fully covered one, shows a refreshing sense of self. With her bold fashion choices and body‑positive outlook, she remains a standout on the Hollywood red carpet.
