David Geffen’s former husband, David Armstrong, has asked a judge to drop the lawsuit Armstrong filed last summer that accused the film mogul of grooming and paying him for sex.
Armstrong, a 32‑year‑old go‑go dancer who goes by Donovan Micheals, filed a complaint in July. He said that Geffen—widely known as the billionaire founder of DreamWorks Records—used “seduction” and “control” to trap him in a cycle of dependency, humiliation and submission.
The lawsuit also alleged that Geffen paid Armstrong $10,000 for sex on the night they met and that he forced the dancer to undergo cosmetic procedures and take drugs that led him to Alcoholics Anonymous.
Geffen, who is estimated to have a net worth of $9 billion, has denied every allegation. His lawyers have said the claims are “false and pathetic” and that they will vigorously defend the billionaire.
The August filing in New York court asks the case to be dismissed “without prejudice,” meaning Armstrong can re‑file it later if he chooses. By dropping the suit, Armstrong also plans to settle any financial disputes through mediation. His attorney, Bryan Freedman, who also represents actor Justin Baldoni in another high‑profile case, told TMZ that Armstrong’s other financial conflicts will be resolved in a private settlement.
Armstrong and Geffen tied the knot in March 2023 but filed for divorce in May. When they split, Armstrong got evicted from their shared city apartment and reported being left without the financial support he’d previously received. He accused Geffen of cutting him off and demanded a lifetime of financial aid, including a home.
Despite the lawsuit being withdrawn, the public record shows Geffen has continued to pay the former husband a monthly rent of $15,000 and has a history of paying Armstrong a $200,000 lump sum since February. Rumors also say that Geffen is willing to give Armstrong up to $50,000 in spousal support per year.
The case touches on sensitive issues such as exploitation, financial control, and the power dynamics that can arise when a powerful entertainment figure marries someone from a vulnerable background. While the court has removed the lawsuit for now, the allegations remain publicly documented, which could impact both men’s reputations as they move forward with their divorce.
