Vyjayanthi Movies shared this update on X (that’s Twitter’s new name) today. Their post reads: “After careful consideration, we have decided to part ways. Despite the long journey of making the first film, we were unable to find a partnership. And a film like @Kalki2898AD deserves that commitment and much more. This is to officially announce that @deepikapadukone will not be a part of the upcoming sequel of #Kalki2898AD.” They also wished Deepika all the best for her future projects.
For those who haven’t caught up, “Kalki 2898 AD” hit theaters in 2024 under director Nag Ashwin’s vision. It boasts a stellar cast with Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, and Disha Patani. Drawing inspiration from Hindu scriptures, this movie kicks off the Kalki Cinematic Universe. The plot unfolds in a dystopian 2898 AD, where a brave group fights to protect a pregnant woman carrying SUM-80—believed to be the unborn child of Lord Vishnu’s final avatar, Kalki. They battle the evil supreme god-king Yaskin in a thrilling post-apocalyptic adventure.
Deepika shone as a key player in the original, but fans will miss her in what’s shaping up to be another massive chapter. She’s been busy lately, starring in Rohit Shetty’s action-packed “Singham Again” this year. That film features Ajay Devgn as the tough cop Bajirao Singham, alongside Kareena Kapoor Khan, Ranveer Singh, Akshay Kumar, Tiger Shroff, Arjun Kapoor, and Jackie Shroff.
