Demi Lovato couldn’t hold back her excitement while spilling the beans on how her husband, Jordan “Jutes” Lutes, pulled off the most romantic marriage proposal nearly two years ago. In a fun chat on SiriusXM, the 33-year-old singer shared that Jutes, 34, went all out by learning guitar just to play an original song he wrote for her.
Picture this: On December 16, 2023, Jutes strummed his heartfelt tune about their love story, packed with sweet little surprises that made it extra special. “He learned to play the guitar for that song, and it was so beautiful,” Lovato gushed. “It captured our journey together with all these Easter eggs. He proposed right there with it—it was so thoughtful, and he’s the best!”
The ex-Disney star, who’s now executive producing the hotly anticipated Camp Rock 3, admitted she never saw it coming. Jutes had tricked her by saying he wouldn’t propose during the holiday rush. “We’d talked about getting engaged, and he was like, ‘I don’t want to do it this year—it’ll get lost in the holidays. Let’s wait till next year.’ I was cool with that, like, ‘Take your time,'” she recalled. “Then boom, he proposed, and I was totally shocked!”
Lovato, who’s super intuitive, added with a laugh, “I’m usually good at sensing these things, but this one blindsided me completely.”
The couple, who said “I do” on May 25 this year in a sunny California wedding, has been going strong. Jutes opened up about his side in an earlier episode of The Viall Files podcast. He confessed it took him a week to nail the chords, and practicing without messing up was a nightmare. “I’m no guitar pro, so rehearsing that song ending in ‘Will you marry me?’ was tough—I’d flub it three out of four times,” he said. He even teared up a few times from the nerves.
To keep it a total surprise, Jutes looped in Lovato’s team to distract her beforehand. “I knew she wasn’t expecting it, and that’s why I timed it that way.
