Hollywood star Demi Moore recently shared a surprising story from her days filming the 1992 hit A Few Good Men with Tom Cruise. In a conversation with journalist Jia Tolentino at the New Yorker Festival, she revealed how she was nearly eight months pregnant when the shoot began.
Moore told the crowd that, while she was moving around the set, Cruise seemed a little uneasy about her pregnancy. “I think Tom was quite embarrassed,” she said. “I was fine, but I could tell he felt it was awkward.” She explained that, back then, many Hollywood artists were choosing between careers and family life, so a pregnant actor was a rare sight.
The actress, who was raising her second child, Scout, during the shoot, said she felt the pressure to prove that motherhood and a film career could coexist. “I wanted to show that you could have both,” Moore said. “It was a lot of pressure to prove that was possible.” She reflected on her eagerness to succeed as a parent and an actress: “I became a bit of an overachiever to show I could handle it all.”
A Few Good Men was adapted from Aaron Sorkin’s 1989 play and follows two Marines charged with a murder. Shooting the film with director Rob Reiner and co‑star Cruise was a defining moment for Moore, who now shares her experience to highlight how Hollywood has changed. Today, more actors openly discuss motherhood, but even a pregnant Demi Moore had to break the mold in the early ’90s.
