Maharashtra signs MoU with Iowa to boost agriculture, technology

Mumbai, September 12: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced a big step forward for the state’s farmers and economy. On Friday, the Maharashtra government signed a key Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the US state of Iowa. This partnership aims to boost collaboration in agriculture, agrotechnology, and several other important sectors.

“We’ve inked an important MoU with Iowa,” Fadnavis said during the event. “Maharashtra and Iowa will team up on agriculture and agro technology, plus work together in various fields to drive growth.”

This comes just days after Fadnavis rolled out major support for farmers. On September 9, he distributed the seventh installment of the Namo Shetkari Mahasamman Nidhi Yojana, a state scheme designed to give financial stability to farmers. This initiative mirrors the Central Government’s Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) program.

In a special event at Mantralaya in Mumbai, the Agriculture Department transferred a whopping Rs 1,892.61 crore directly to the bank accounts of over 91.65 lakh farmers. The program, held in the Cabinet Hall on the 7th floor, saw Fadnavis joined by Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar, Agriculture Minister Dattatray Bharane, and Chief Secretary Rajesh Kumar.

The Namo Shetkari Mahasamman Nidhi Yojana provides an extra Rs 6,000 per year to eligible farmers, on top of the Rs 6,000 from PM-KISAN. This seventh payout covered subsidies for April to July 2025, helping farmers manage costs amid heavy rains and tough weather.

Every farmer enrolled in PM-KISAN automatically gets this state benefit too. “This timely aid will be a lifeline for Maharashtra farmers facing challenges from excessive rainfall,” officials noted. The scheme ensures direct financial help for agricultural expenses, supporting the backbone of India’s rural economy.

With this MoU and farmer aid, Maharashtra is pushing hard to modernize farming through technology and strong global ties. Stay tuned for more updates on agriculture schemes and state partnerships.
