The much‑anticipated Tamil period drama Kaantha — starring Malayalam heartthrob Dulquer Salmaan — will hit cinemas worldwide on November 14. The film, directed by Selvamani Selvaraj, has switched its release from the original September 12 date to this new launch, giving audiences extra time to build excitement.

A Diwali‑era movie hit

Dulquer shared the news on his social media with a festive twist: “Diwali just got a whole lot more explosive! #Kaantha will be lighting up theatres worldwide from NOVEMBER 14th! Wishing you all a happy Diwali and we’ll see you in the theatres very soon.” The actor’s upbeat message brought fans and back‑office staff alike into a shared celebration of the film’s launch.

Teaser hype and the story behind the film

The teaser released a few months ago already set hearts racing. It starts with a dramatic narrator proclaiming Kaantha will be Tamil cinema’s first horror‑period drama, and shows a clash between the director, Samuthirakani, and the star. While the director insists on a spine‑trembling scene with a spirit named Neeli, Dulquer prefers a lighter moment. This creative tug‑of‑war fuels curiosity and showcases the film’s layered narrative.

The movie is set in 1950s Madras, a time when tradition and modernity clashed, creating stories that feel both personal and historic. The teaser hints at a powerful, visually stunning journey, with critics already praising the realistic texture of the portrayal.

Production details

Kaantha is co‑produced by Spirit Media and Dulquer Salmaan’s Wayfarer Films. Cinematography comes from the experienced Dani Sanchez Lopaz, while Jhanu Chanthar handles the music. The art direction by Tha. Ramalingam and editing by Llewellyn Anthony Gonsalves promise an immersive visual feast.

Why you should watch

With Dulquer Salmaan’s proven charisma and the director’s fresh vision, Kaantha is ready to bring the 1950s era into modern theaters. Fans of historical dramas, horror twists, and strong performances will find a lot to love. Mark your calendars for November 14 and join the worldwide audience for what many describe as a “historic return to the silver screen.”
