Karnataka CM D.K. Shivakumar offers his condolences on the passing of KGF actor Harish Rai

Bangalore, Nov 6 – Kannada film star Harish Rai died in the evening of November 6 at a hospital in Bangalore. The veteran actor, known for his powerful villain roles, had been battling thyroid cancer that had spread to his stomach.
Harish‑Rai was a familiar face in Karnataka’s film scene, appearing in hits such as Om, Hello Yama, and the blockbuster KGF franchise. His performances as Don Rai in Om and the unforgettable gang leader in KFC earned him wide acclaim.
Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar shared his grief on the platform now called X. He wrote, “The passing of Harish Rai, a celebrated villain in Kannada cinema, is a great loss for the film industry. He fought cancer bravely.” Shivakumar added, “His work in Om, Hello Yama, and KGF 1 & 2 attracted audiences worldwide. I pray for his soul’s peace and for strength for his family.” The former minister’s heartfelt post reached thousands of fans across Karnataka and beyond.
In recent months, Harish‑Rai revealed the high cost of his treatments. A single injection of chemotherapy cost him ₹3.55 lakh, and he received three injections per cycle over 63 days, totaling about ₹10.5 lakh per cycle. He urged the public to support patients facing similar financial burdens.
Over his career, Harish‑Rai acted in Kannada, Tamil, and Telugu films. His filmography includes Samara, Jodihakki, Raj Bahadur, Sanu Wedds Geetha, Swayamvara, Nalla, and both installments of KGF. Fans remember him for his intense screen presence and memorable dialogues.
His sudden passing has left a void in the Kannada film industry. His legacy, however, lives on through the unforgettable characters he brought to life on screen. Fans and fellow actors alike mourn the loss of a beloved artist who gave his all to his craft.
