Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel recently dropped by the bustling construction site of the grand Vishv Umiyadham temple in Ahmedabad. This massive project kicked off with the foundation stone laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi back in 2019, and it’s shaping up to be a true symbol of Indian heritage.
Joining the CM on this visit was Bollywood actor Vivek Oberoi, who couldn’t hide his excitement. Chatting with the media, Vivek said, "It’s my good fortune to visit Umiyadham today. This isn’t just a temple or building—it’s a living piece of Indian culture. It protects our Sanatan values, our religion, and the essence of India for future generations. Temples like this are our greatest treasure, showcasing to the world how deep and ancient our roots are."
During the visit, CM Patel kicked off the pouring of a whopping 9 lakh cubic feet of concrete for the raft foundation. This key step supports the temple’s unique 1551 Dharmastambhs—towering pillars that make the Maa Umiya Temple stand out as a historic marvel. The concrete work will run non-stop for three full days, that’s 72 hours straight, to keep things on track.
The event drew a lively crowd, including trustees of Vishv Umiya Dham, generous donors, hardworking construction workers, and local community leaders. Everyone seemed pumped about watching this dream project come to life.
Flashback to March 4, 2019: PM Modi himself laid the foundation stone at the Jaspur site in Ahmedabad. Speaking to a cheering audience, he highlighted the timeless role of saints and seers in building a strong society. "They’ve given us priceless lessons and the courage to stand against evil and injustice," Modi said, according to the PMO release.
The Prime Minister urged everyone to embrace the best from our past while adapting to modern times. He also stressed big-scale government initiatives that reach every corner of society. On a personal note, Modi pushed for top-notch education for the youth and slammed gender discrimination. "Followers of Maa Umiya would never support female foeticide," he declared, calling for a fairer world without bias against girls.
Interestingly, Vivek Oberoi has a fun connection to PM Modi—he played the lead role in the 2019 biographical film PM Narendra Modi. Directed by Omung Kumar and co-written by Vivek himself, the movie dives into the life story of India’s 14th Prime Minister. It’s a nod to how culture, faith, and leadership often intertwine in projects like Vishv Umiyadham.
This temple complex isn’t just about bricks and mortar; it’s a beacon preserving Sanatan Dharma and Gujarat’s rich traditions for years to come. As construction ramps up, it’s clear this will become a must-visit spot for anyone exploring Indian heritage sites.
