Halle Bailey, the 25‑year‑old Hollywood actress‑singer best known as the voice of Ursula in Disney’s The Little Mermaid, sat down on The Jennifer Hudson Show on October 24 to talk about her journey into motherhood.
Bailey shared that she’s now a proud mom to her 22‑month‑old son, Halo, whom she welcomed in December 2023 with ex‑boyfriend DDG. She said the baby’s arrival sparked a new sense of purpose: “I realized I have to speak up about postpartum, not just for older moms, but for younger women who are starting families at 24 or 25,” she told Hudson.
She emphasized how childbirth brings intense emotions and a surge of hormones, making a strong support system essential. “You need people who love you and make sure you’re okay,” Bailey said. By opening up about the ups and downs of early motherhood, she hopes to reduce the isolation many new parents feel. “When you’re honest about it, it helps people know they’re not alone and that they’re not getting the shock of it all,” she added.
Bailey disclosed that the support during pregnancy and early motherhood was a key reason Los Angeles recently honored her for her postpartum advocacy. “It’s amazing to be open about what’s ahead,” she explained. “When people know what to expect, they’re better prepared and don’t feel so surprised.”
Reflecting on being a first‑time mom, Bailey said her favorite part is learning from Halo every day. “He brings out the inner child in me, and it’s like painting and doing fun activities. I get to be a child again,” she laughed.
Her candid conversation on The Jennifer Hudson Show underscores the growing conversation around postpartum care and mental health. With her voice and platform, Halle Bailey is helping new mothers feel seen, heard, and supported.
