Here’s why Seth Rogen believes he’s ‘blacklisted’ from presenting at the Emmys again

Seth Rogen says he will never again host the Emmys. The 43‑year‑old comedian‑actor explained on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” that he has not been invited back after his 2021 presentation, and he believes the reason lies with a blunt critique of the ceremony’s setting during the COVID era.

Rogen remembered telling the crowd that the “outdoor” awards were actually inside a sealed tent, calling out the production for misleading the hosts. “It was true! They lied,” he insisted to Kimmel’s guests. The producers scolded him, and the Television Academy later confirmed that Rogen is effectively banned from presenting again—Kimmel, a former Emmy host, joked that his own ABC suspension had a “black‑listing” vibe similar to Rogen’s.

When questioned, Rogen could not deny the ban. “I went very off‑book and made them look bad,” he admitted, acknowledging that the network chose not to hire him as a presenter again.

Despite the setback, Rogen’s career has not stalled. After winning four Emmys in 2025 for the first season of Apple TV+’s “The Studio”—including Outstanding Comedy Series, director, writer, and lead performances—he continued to work on two Apple projects. In addition to playing Matt on “The Studio,” he portrays Will on the comedy “Platonic.”

Luke Macfarlane, Rogen’s co‑star on “Platonic,” praised him for balancing both shows. “He was finishing scenes on one set and then heading into his trailer to write on the other,” Macfarlane said. He highlighted Rogen’s dedication, noting how the actor protected his colleagues: “Someone once told me not to touch his microphone; I told them that’s not a director’s job.”

Rogen’s story illustrates a mix of Hollywood politics—his sharp comments earned him a modern‑day black‑list—and relentless work ethic that sees him juggle multiple roles and still win big awards. His candid admission that the Emmys decided to exclude him from presenting shows how a single moment can shape a star’s public standing, even as he keeps delivering hit shows for Apple TV+.
