Hugh Jackman pays respect at memorial for fallen Indiana sheriff’s corporal killed in horrific highway crash
Actor Hugh Jackman stopped by the Delaware County Sheriff’s station in Muncie, Indiana, on Friday for a quiet moment of remembrance. He stood in front of a patrol car draped in flowers, flags and a guitar, speaking with mourners at a memorial for Corporal Blake Reynolds, who lost his life earlier this month.
Reynolds, 31, was a dedicated sheriff’s officer who had served the community for three years. He was outside his patrol vehicle helping a stranded semitruck driver when a tractor‑trailer crashed into his car on Interstate 69 at about 4 a.m. The collision set off a chain reaction that tore the sheriff’s cruiser from its fender and left Reynolds with fatal injuries. He was rushed to IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital, where he later died.
The officer was a Ball State University graduate, having studied criminal justice before joining the academy. He also served in the United States Army National Guard. Family members and friends remember him as a loyal, energetic, and courageous police officer who loved the night shift, teamwork, and the chance to help others.
“It was clear from day one that law‑enforcement was not just his job – it was his calling,” a family member said. “He was hardwired to protect, and he did it with heart and compassion.” The obituary also highlighted Reynolds’ love of music, movies, history, and his goofy sense of humor – he cheerfully quoted Star Wars and adored Batman as if it were real life.
The town has scheduled a public service on Nov. 22 to honor Reynolds’ life and sacrifice. Local law‑enforcement officials noted the support that people like Jackman bring to the community. When the actor appeared at the memorial, Robertson, head of the Indiana Fraternal Order of Police, tweeted a “shout out” to Jackman, saying the visit meant a great deal to the family and the city.
Jackman is no stranger to Muncie. He has visited several times to support his long‑time girlfriend, Broadway star Sutton Foster, who teaches theater at Ball State. During the latest trip, he met Mayor Dan Ridenour and toured City Hall, where he posed for photos with city staff. The mayor’s office called the visit a “warm welcome” and said Jackman’s presence highlighted the city’s growing community spirit.
For residents, Jackman’s stop‑by mixes Hollywood charisma with genuine respect for a fallen hero. The moment reminded everyone in Muncie that sometimes, a little kindness from a star can bring comfort and unity to a town that fell on its feet.
