Bollywood actress Bhumi Pednekar wants to do more than just entertain—she’s using her fame to spark real social change in India. In a recent chat with , the 36-year-old star explained how her work goes beyond the silver screen to shift mindsets and lift up communities.
“I know that my work has more than just entertainment. It’s helping in changing a mindset. It’s helping in uplifting communities, especially in my country. I really want to do everything in my capacity to make sure that I can help as many as I can in my country,” Bhumi said.
The floods in Jammu hit close to home for her, reminding Bhumi of her roots and how much artists owe to their fans. She pointed out that stars like actors and singers thrive thanks to everyday people who buy tickets, show up to events, and spread their stories.
As a dedicated climate warrior, Bhumi recently spoke at the Milken Institute Asia Summit 2025 in Singapore. Surrounded by policymakers and leaders from across Asia, she stressed that her role isn’t limited to acting. “Yes, my bio says actress, but it also says climate warrior and advocate. I think that part of my work is just as important,” she told the crowd.
Bhumi’s passion for India runs deep, thanks to her parents. On India’s Independence Day, August 15, she shared a touching Instagram video of her mom getting emotional about her love for the country. In the caption, Bhumi wrote that growing up with her parents’ stories of tougher times fueled her own patriotism. “I have inherited my love for India from them and I wear my nationality as a badge of honour,” she added.
On the work front, Bhumi just wrapped up her role as ambitious startup CEO Sophia in the Netflix series “The Royals,” alongside Ishaan Khatter and Zeenat Aman. Fans can catch her next as a tough police officer in the upcoming thriller “Daldal.” She’s also gearing up for the big period drama “Takht,” which promises to be a highlight in her busy lineup.
