In Mumbai, veteran singer and actress Ila Arun shared that her brother, Piyush Pandey, has died. Arun posted a sad video on Instagram, describing feeling “devastated” and without life after learning of the loss. She added that her brother Prasoon will share more details.
Piyush Pandey, 70, was a celebrated advertising icon and the Executive Chairman of Ogilvy worldwide. He earned the Padma Shri award and helped shape modern Indian advertising. Pandey passed away on Friday after a fight with a serious infection, according to Ogilvy’s statement.
The agency said Pandey died peacefully at home and expressed deep sorrow for the creative community. “Everyone in the Ogilvy family feels the loss,” the statement read.
Celebrities joined the outpouring of grief. Filmmaker Hansal Mehta posted on X that “the glue of advertising is broken – the ad world lost a giant.” Musician Ehsaan Noorani wrote, “Rest in peace, the man who redefined creativity in advertising.”
Piyush Pandey was known for giving Indian ads a distinct identity, moving away from heavy Western influence. His legacy continues to inspire campaigns across the country.
