JP Nadda, U’Khand CM Dhami hail PM Modi’s leadership as India emerges frontrunner in TB control

New Delhi, Nov 13 – India’s battle against tuberculosis is gaining worldwide attention, as the World Health Organization (WHO) announced a sharp drop in TB cases across the country. Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda and Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership for driving this progress.

The WHO’s 2025 Global TB Report shows India’s TB incidence fell by 21 % from 2015 to 2024, almost twice the global rate of 12 %. Treatment coverage now hits 92 % and the cure rate is 90 %, putting India way ahead of most nations. “India’s remarkable 21‑per‑cent drop is a testament to the Jan Andolan—our people‑led push for a TB‑free India,” Minster Nadda said on X. He noted that 2024 saw 26.18 lakh TB cases detected, the highest in a single year, but that modern technology like portable AI‑powered X‑rays and decentralized NAAT testing is speeding up diagnosis and cutting transmission.

Nadda also highlighted the role of citizen awareness. “With the help of our people’s participation—true Jan Bhagidari—we’re getting closer to a TB‑free India,” he added.

Chief Minister Dhami took the same occasion to thank PM Modi. “Prime Minister, India’s historic TB elimination achievements, as recorded in the WHO report, are your greatest legacy,” Dhami wrote in his post on X. He said Uttarakhand is already making concrete strides toward a TB‑free future at the pace set by the national campaign, emphasizing that the state is ready to move faster under the Prime Minister’s guidance.

The WHO report also documented a dramatic drop in “missing cases” – people who had TB but were not notified to the program – from 15 lakh in 2015 to under one lakh in 2024. These numbers underline how far India has come in reducing TB and show the impact of the country’s robust public‑health push.

In sum, India’s rapid decline in TB incidence, driven by Jan Andolan, cutting‑edge technology, and strong political leadership, positions the nation as a front‑runner in the global fight against tuberculosis.
