June Lockhart, the beloved American actress known for her roles in Lassie, Lost in Space, and Petticoat Junction, passed away on Thursday at the age of 100. She died of natural causes at her home in Santa Monica, surrounded by her daughter, June Elizabeth, and granddaughter, Christianna.

Lockhart was a quiet icon on screen, but off‑camera she lived a life full of adventure. In 2024, she shared with Fox News Digital that she has loved rock and roll her whole life. “I have been a music fan forever,” she said. “The Beatles, Stones, Chicago, David Bowie, Huey Lewis and the News, Tina Turner.” She even played the hostess to a band called Hour Glass—later known as The Allman Brothers—at a Halloween party in the late 1960s.

Her daughter’s son, actor Billy Mumy—who played Lockhart’s son on Lost in Space—described her as a true “rock ‘n’ roll gal.” “She brought The Allman Brothers to the studio. She took me and Angela Cartwright to the Whiskey a Go Go and got us tickets to see Simon & Garfunkel,” he told Fox News. Mumy also revealed in a 2023 interview that Lockhart kept a picture of David Bowie in her wallet throughout the 1980s and that Bowie would have been a dream meeting for her.

Beyond music, Lockhart’s adventurous spirit spilled into other hobbies—she flew hot‑air balloons, drove Army tanks, and practiced air‑gliding. She famously said that she can control her reputation, but not “her image,” because how the public sees her is beyond her control. “I love rock ‘n’ roll and going to concerts,” she added, adding that she is “a little bit of a rebel” compared to her wholesome television persona.

Lockhart’s legacy stretches beyond her iconic television roles. In 2015 she received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, and she continued to sign autographs for fans at events like the Western Cable Show in Anaheim, where a Reuters photo captured her smiling. Her death comes at the end of a remarkable 100‑year journey that touched generations of fans and fellow actors.

She will be remembered not only as a talented, nurturing mother on screen but also as an adventurous spirit who lived life on her own terms. Her friends and family, alike, will miss her voice, her laughter, and her boundless enthusiasm for music, adventure, and the simple joy of following her own path.
