Ranvir Shorey has always impressed fans with his range, from the hilarious Delhi boy in Khosla Ka Ghosla to the intense drug addict in Traffic Signal and the gripping role in Titli. Now, the versatile actor is back with a fresh take in the crime drama series Bindiya Ke Bahubali.
In a chat with , Shorey spilled the beans on his new character in the show, directed by Raj Amit Kumar. "It’s a family crime drama set in the heart of Hindi-speaking India," he explained. "Think of it as a dysfunctional family of bahubalis—strongmen tangled in crime and politics. I play Chhote Dawaan, the eldest son of the main bahubali. He’s got big ambitions, but constant clashes with his father fuel the entire story."
Shorey couldn’t stop raving about the star-studded cast. It includes heavyweights like Saurabh Shukla, Seema Biswas, Sushant Singh, and Govind Namdev, plus rising stars Aakash Dahiya and Kranti. "Saurabh and Seema are teaming up on screen for the first time since Bandit Queen—that’s exciting!" he said. He also shouted out the powerhouse women in the cast: Tannishtha Chatterjee, Kallirroi, and Seema Biswas. "The female characters bring so much depth to this tale."
Ever curious about the title? Shorey broke it down: "Bindiya is this fictional town in Bihar, dreamed up just for the series. We picked the name right before release—it mixes tough, masculine vibes with a touch of femininity, mirroring the show’s balanced story."
When it comes to his acting style, Shorey loves adding layers. "Chhote Dawaan could easily turn into a one-note tough guy, but director Raj Amit Kumar dug into his sensitive side," he shared. "It’s a complex role. Season one builds the world, and season two will let the character evolve even more."
Shorey also opened up about how he picks roles to dodge typecasting. "I’ve always gone for variety," he said. "I’ve seen so many careers fizzle out from playing the same thing over and over. That pushed me to mix it up from the start." He fondly remembered prepping for Khosla Ka Ghosla by nailing that quirky Delhi vibe and drawing from real-life struggles for the raw emotion in Traffic Signal and Bheja Fry.
As for the buzz around Bindiya Ke Bahubali, Shorey is thrilled. "Season one is streaming now on MX Player, and the response has been amazing," he noted. "Season two drops during Diwali—hope viewers love it as much as we did making it!"
Catch Bindiya Ke Bahubali on Amazon MX Player for a thrilling ride into family rivalries, crime, and power plays in rural India.
