On Friday, Mumbai welcomed a special birthday celebration for 78‑year‑old actress Simi Garewal, and Bollywood veteran Jackie Shroff joined in the cheer. The actor posted a heartfelt Instagram video that stitched together snapshots of Simi from her early career, overlayed with the classic tune “Ek Haseena Thi Ek Deewana Tha” from the 1980 hit Karz. In the caption he wrote, “My respect always! #happybirthday @simigarewalofficial.”
Simi Garewal’s journey began in England, but she made her Indian film debut in 1962 alongside Feroz Khan in Tarzan Goes to India. The 1960s and ’70s saw her in standout roles in Son of India, Do Badan, Mera Naam Joker, Aranyer Din Ratri, and Padatik. She later starred opposite Shashi Kapoor in Siddhartha, an English‑language version of Hermann Hesse’s novel. The film included a brief nude scene by Garewal that sparked controversy in India and required censor board cuts before release.
Her career continued to flourish with films such as Kabhi Kabhie, Chalte Chalte, Karz, and she appeared in the BBC docu‑drama Maharajas, based on Charles Allen’s book. She also launched the popular talk show Rendezvous with Simi Garewal.
Jackie Shroff, who recently celebrated Simi’s birthday, is set to appear in the upcoming action flick Welcome To The Jungle, directed by Ahmed Khan. The cast also features big names like Akshay Kumar, Sanjay Dutt, Suniel Shetty, Disha Patani, Lara Dutta, and many others.
In addition to the film, Shroff’s latest project is the second season of the OTT series Hunter 2, where he plays the antagonist, “The Salesman”.
Fans of classic Bollywood and current blockbusters alike will enjoy seeing these iconic figures celebrated together.
