Washington, October 5 – Actor‑filmmaker Jason Bateman is taking the director’s chair again for a fresh take on John Grisham’s 1997 hit novel, The Partner, according to Variety. The legal thriller follows a young lawyer who fakes his own death to disappear with $90 million belonging to a shady client. From courtroom drama to a high‑octane chase of secrets and betrayal, the story is a classic Grisham package that mixes sharp legal battles with pulse‑pounding suspense.
Tom Holland, who has charmed audiences as Spider‑Man, is reportedly in talks to star in the lead role. Holland will also produce the film through his company, Billy 17, alongside brother Harry and Will South. Bateman will executive‑produce the project with Michael Costigan of Aggregate Films, while Grisham himself is attached as an executive producer.
Universal Pictures is buying the rights, with studio executives Ryan Jones and Jacqueline Garell overseeing the development. Bateman, who already earned an Emmy for directing Ozark and recently directed two episodes of Netflix’s Black Rabbit with Jude Law, brings a seasoned eye behind the camera.
Grisham’s books have long been a hit at Hollywood – The Firm, A Time to Kill, and The Pelican Brief all made it to the big screen. With The Partner, his best‑selling legal thrillers return to reel‑kids and new audiences alike.
