Canada’s BCE expects to save C$1.5 billion in costs by 2028

BCE Inc., Canada’s largest telecom and media company, says it will cut about C$1.5 billion in operating costs by 2028.

The Canadian firm explained that the savings will come from a mix of efficiency upgrades, smart‑sizing of network infrastructure, and a renewed focus on customer‑centric services. BCE plans to reduce spending on legacy systems, streamline its workforce, and invest only in high‑return projects that improve network reliability and speed.

“We are simplifying our operations and investing smartly,” said BCE’s chief executive in a statement. The company highlighted that these cost‑saving moves will free up capital for future 5G and fiber‑optic expansions—areas where Canada lags behind other North American markets.

BCE’s announcement comes as the Canadian telecom sector faces intense competition and growing consumer demand for faster, more reliable internet. By 2028, the company expects these cost cuts to boost profitability and strengthen its position in the province‑wide services market.

The move also signals confidence in Canada’s digital future, as BCE plans to deliver next‑generation connectivity while keeping price‑sensitive customers in mind. If the plan meets its targets, BCE will have reduced its 2027 cost base by roughly one‑tenth, offering shareholders and customers alike a clearer path forward in an increasingly data‑driven economy.
