Jennifer Lopez recently opened up about the tough challenges she faced while starring in the upcoming musical drama “Kiss of the Spider Woman.” The singer and actress shared her experiences with costume designer Colleen Atwood, who helped her nail the role through a close collaboration.
Lopez praised Atwood for her detailed approach to every scene. “She was very specific about each moment in the movie,” Lopez said in an interview with Page Six. “When she was so specific about it, it put me right into an idea right away, instead of me trying to craft it, find it.”
One standout challenge came from the film’s iconic gold dress, which weighed a whopping 50 pounds. Lopez revealed how the heavy outfit made dancing a real struggle. “It was so heavy,” she explained. “When they would lift me up, and I would try to move my leg around and do the attitude. It was a nightmare.”
Despite the difficulties, Lopez raved about the final result. “It worked. The way the dress moved and the lines of the dress—Atwood really is a master at that, and it was perfect,” she said. “We’d see it on the monitor, and I’d be like, ‘Oh, I didn’t even realize the costume would be that good.'”
The costumes weren’t always practical, but they brought the “Kiss of the Spider Woman” character to life in stunning ways. Fans can catch Lopez in the film when it hits theaters on October 10.
