Hollywood actor Jeremy Renner has strongly denied accusations that he sent unwanted sexual messages to Chinese filmmaker Yi Zhou.

Zhou, who worked with Renner on the documentary Chronicles of Disney and an animated film, posted a series of Instagram photos in June saying the 54‑year‑old actor had sent “a string of unsolicited pornographic images” to her on Instagram and WhatsApp. She also said Renner threatened to contact immigration authorities—ICE—to “sue” her.

Renner’s representatives called the claims “totally inaccurate and untrue.” His lawyer, Marty Singer, described the allegations as “false, outrageous and highly defamatory.” Singer said Zhou was “retaliating” after Renner rejected her romantic advances and did not promote her projects on social media.

According to the actor’s side, the two first met on July 12, 2025, at a hotel in Reno, Nevada, during an interview for Zhou’s documentary. The pair “shared a brief consensual encounter.” They reportedly met again in August, after which Renner has not spoken to Zhou. His lawyer claims Renner ignored her “sexually explicit messages expressing her love,” even after she sent a new message on October 24.

Singer has added that Zhou had sent “hundreds of unsolicited and unwanted messages” and that the allegations of threats to ICE are part of a harassment campaign against Renner.

Zhou has not yet responded to the actor’s legal team, and the dispute is still ongoing. The case highlights the growing scrutiny over social media conduct and the importance of clear, respectful communication in the entertainment industry.
