Los Angeles, Nov 9 — Jon Bon Jovi, the 63‑year‑old rock icon, says his 21‑year‑old son Romeo Bongiovi deserves full credit for his music, not the “nepo baby” label that buzzes in the press.
In an interview with a UK music magazine, Bon Jovi praised Romeo’s new singles and made it clear that the singer‑songwriter has his own vision. “The first singles are great. People talk about these nepo babies, but I’m not in that conversation,” he said. “He has his own mission, and I respect that.”
Romeo was born to Jon and his wife Dorothea, who also share three older children: Stephanie (32), Jesse (30) and Jake (23). The family has survived highly publicized moments, including Jon’s vocal‑cord surgery in 2022. The surgery was necessary after the singer’s voice began to falter with the end of the 2022 tour, but it left him unable to perform for months.
In 2024, Jon’s story was captured in Disney+’s four‑part docuseries “Thank You, Goodnight: The Bon Jovi Story.” The series followed the singer’s emotional journey after the surgery, when he struggled to find his voice—literally and figuratively—than he had in the 1980s.
“We don’t put on a perfect show,” Bon Jovi said on the show. “I want to tell the truth. I never expected the surgery or the recovery.” He added that the timing of the 16th studio album, “Forever,” coincided with the tour and the anthology, but his throat still needed healing. “I told the band I wasn’t ready and they were patient. I’ve had to say I’m done and they said no, she’s made more progress.”
Bon Jovi’s comeback is on track. He plans to headline a concert celebration with his band “Lawn” in 2026. The tour will bring fans back to the music that made him a legend and give Romeo a chance to shine on his own term.
