Kajol calls Zarine Katrak’s demise ‘a heart wrenching loss’

Mumbai, India – In a sad turn of events, Bollywood legend Zarine Katrak, 81, passed away after a long battle with age‑related illnesses. She was the wife of veteran actor Sanjay Khan and mother‑in‑law to superstar Hrithik Rohit Rohan, as well as mother to Zayed Khan, Farah Ali Khan and Sussanne Khan.
The actress‑turned‑producer is remembered for early roles in films such as Tere Ghar Ke Saamne and Ek Phool Do Mali. Katrak’s career later shifted to behind‑the‑camera work, producing and directing titles like Chandi Sona and Abdullah. She even shared the screen with her brother’s star, Feroz Khan, in dramas including Upaasna and Mela.
Social media erupted with condolences. Actress Kajol posted a picture of Katrak on Instagram Stories, writing, “What a heart‑wrenching loss! Shocked and saddened…deepest condolences and prayers to the whole family.” Actor Priyanka Chopra’s mother, Dr. Madhu Chopra, followed suit with a tribute: “RIP my dearest friend. You will be so missed!!”
Katrak’s final appearance on camera was a friendly vlog by choreographer Farah Khan, where she humorously served the Om Shanti Om star an Irani mutton kofta.
The 81‑year‑old left her husband Sanjay Khan and their three children behind. Sanjay, who first met Zarine at a bus stop in 1966, had a prolific career in both acting and filmmaking. Her passing marks the loss of a beloved figure in Indian cinema and a cherished family member.
