Mumbai, Oct. 7 – After the surprise hit “Kantara Chapter 1” swept the box office, a fan in Tamil Nadu was photographed walking into a theater dressed like a Daiva, the sacred spirit shown in the film.
Two other movie lovers even staged a scene from the pre‑movie outside the cinema hall, turning a quiet evening into a flash‑mob tribute.
Hombale Films, the studio behind the Kannada blockbuster, issued a statement on social media asking fans to stop copying the Daiva look. The film’s star, Rishab Shetty, has become a national celebrity, and his movies are watched by millions, but the studio worries that casual mimicry could offend the Tulu community that the Daiva worship honors.
“We created Dhaivaradhane as a deep symbol of faith and cultural pride from Tulunadu in Karnataka,” the statement read. “Our intention was to respect and celebrate this devotion. Some people, however, have performed the Daiva roles in public and on social media in ways that trivialize our religion.”
The filmmakers urged viewers not to imitate Daiva characters on film sets or in public places. “Such actions hurt the Hindu feelings of the Tulu people,” the statement added. “Please respect the spiritual meaning of Daiva worship and keep it out of popular stunt performances.”
The message is clear: fans can enjoy “Kantara” in the theater but should keep the Daiva portrayal sacred. Hombale Films thanked everyone for the movie’s success and asked for cooperation in preserving Tulu cultural heritage.
