Bollywood star Kareena Kapoor Khan kicked off filming for her 68th movie, “Daayra,” in Mumbai. The project teams her up with director Meghna Gulzar and actor Prithviraj Sukumaran. After 25 years in Hindi cinema, Kareena shared the exciting news on Instagram with a video from the script-reading session and some behind-the-scenes photos of the cast.
“Day 1 68th film Daayra with the most amazing @meghnagulzar and @therealprithvi … Send love and blessings,” she captioned the post, asking fans for their support.
“Daayra” dives into modern society’s tough issues, tackling timely themes like crime, punishment, and justice. This crime-drama thriller promises raw emotion, with Kareena and Prithviraj delivering intense performances in their key roles.
Earlier this year, Kareena opened up about why she’s so pumped for the film. “As I celebrate 25 incredible years in Hindi cinema, I’m thrilled to announce my next film, Daayra, with the incredible Meghna Gulzar in the director’s chair,” she said. “I’ve long admired her work, from Talvar to Raazi, and to be directed by her is a dream come true.”
She also highlighted her collaboration with Prithviraj. “And I’m drawn to the film’s bold, thought-provoking narrative. Daayra promises to be a cinematic experience that challenges and inspires, and I look forward to working with Meghna, Prithviraj, and the team at Junglee Pictures on this powerful, timely film.”
This comes after Meghna’s hit “Sam Bahadur.” The story brings together a strong cast and a gripping plot that explores real-world conflicts.
Kareena burst onto the scene in 2000 with her debut film “Refugee,” directed by J.P. Dutta. It starred her alongside Abhishek Bachchan in his first role, plus Jackie Shroff, Sunil Shetty, and Anupam Kher. The movie follows an Indian Muslim who aids refugees crossing the India-Pakistan border through the Great Rann of Kutch. It draws inspiration from Keki N. Daruwalla’s short story “Love Across the Salt Desert.”
