Bigg Boss Kannada production in Bidadi has been back on track after a sudden seal was lifted from Vels Studio, the studio that hosts the reality show.
The seal was placed by Bengaluru South District officials following an order from the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB). The board said the studio was not following water and air‑pollution rules and that it lacked necessary permits under the Air Act and Water Act.
Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar stepped in on October 8, sending the Deputy Commissioner of Bengaluru South to reopen the studio. He said the environment remains a priority but the studio would be given a chance to fix the violations.
“While we remain committed to protecting the environment, we will not halt Kannada entertainment without giving the studio time to comply,” Shivakumar posted on X (formerly Twitter).
The star actor and host of Bigg Boss Kannada, Kichcha Sudeepa, thanked the deputy chief minister and the district officials. “I appreciate the timely support from Hon. @DKShivakumar and the quick response from the DCM and @Nalpad,” he wrote. “#BBK12 is here to stay.”
KSPCB’s Member Secretary, SS Lingaraju, explained that Vels Studio had never obtained the required operating consent. The studio houses an amusement park, a few hotel rooms and a 250 kL/day sewage treatment plant that is not functioning, according to him. Because of these “non‑compliances,” the board issued the closure order.
Now, with the seal removed, filming can resume. The authorities say the studio will still need to meet all regulatory standards before it can keep operating safely. The case highlights the tension between rapid entertainment production and strict environmental regulations in Karnataka.
