Exclusive | Rockette who went viral for her audition at 7 months pregnant reveals the story behind the video
The internet went wild over a heart‑warming clip that shows former Rockette Alina Silver rehearsing for her iconic dance troupe while still seven and a half months pregnant. The 43‑year‑old shared the ten‑year‑old video on her TikTok and Instagram accounts, and it has racked up more than 11.7 million combined views.
Fans were stunned, calling her a “super human,” “badass,” and a shining example of female greatness. One comment read, “I am zero weeks pregnant and trip over my own two feet walking. Major legend status for being able to do that pregnant AND in heels.” Silver, who has three children and was a Rockette for twelve years, said the praise has been “overwhelming.”
“It’s just women being like, ‘Wow, you go girl!’ And it’s been sweet to read the comments because as dancers, it’s just wired in us to be super determined,” she told The Post. “I didn’t necessarily feel brave then, but looking back, I’m amazed I went for it.”
The clip was originally given to her by the show’s director in 2016, when she chose to audition only a month and a half before giving birth to her first child. “He told me, ‘Show this to your daughter one day,’” Silver remembered. She had been dancing since age three, joined the Rockettes in 2005, and decided to audition a second time while heavily pregnant during the 2015 Christmas Spectacular.
She traveled to Radio City in May, landed the performance spot again, and even felt a calm that she hadn’t experienced before. “I think it’s because I had my baby on my mind,” she explained. The energy in the audition room, with Rockettes cheering her on, added to the magic.
Her daughter Amanda is now nine and part of the Manhattan Youth Ballet. After the show, Silver stayed on the road for ten more seasons before stepping away to focus on her growing family—now including two more kids, Molly (7) and Ving (4).
Beyond dance, Silver founded “Tribe by Alina,” a fitness community that empowers women with workouts. The viral clip even caught the eye of NFL star Jason Kelce’s wife, Kylie, who featured it on her “Not Gonna Lie” podcast, praising Silver’s fearless moves in grey pants and high kicks. “Those gray leggings probably became more viral than I did,” she joked.
