Lady Gaga has her sights set on a new adventure: motherhood. The 39-year-old Hollywood star and singer, whose real name is Stefani Germanotta, shared her heartfelt dreams during a recent chat on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.
"I would like to do many things," she told host Stephen Colbert. "But what I really want is to be a mom. That’s my next starring role, I hope."
This isn’t the first time Gaga has opened up about wanting to start a family. Just under a year after getting engaged to entrepreneur Michael Polansky, she told Access Hollywood that becoming a mom tops her list of life goals. "I really want to be a mom. That’s the greatest vision I have," she said.
In a sit-down with Elle magazine, Gaga dove deeper into her family plans. She and Polansky have talked a lot about raising kids who can be themselves. "That’s something Michael and I have discussed endlessly—allowing our kids to be their own people," she explained. "It’s such an intense thing for kids coming into the world. They’re told how to think, what to believe, and even how to eat. I just want to let my kids find out who they are."
Gaga knows parenting will bring plenty of humbling moments. When the interviewer pointed out that kids have a way of keeping parents grounded, she laughed and replied, "Oh, I’m ready."
As for how her future children might view her wild music and acting career? Gaga wants them to decide for themselves. "I would want my children to understand that whatever my artistry means to them is totally up to them," she said. "I would never want to shape it or tell them how to think about me—maybe other than that I just did my best and tried to stay true to myself along the way."
