New Delhi – Shalini Passi, the well‑known philanthropist and fashion icon, wowed fans at Lakme Fashion Week on Saturday. She strut down the runway in a stunning blue velvet gown that turned heads with its shimmering halter straps and fish‑tail cut.
The look came from designer Nikita Mhaisalkar’s new “Beyond” collection, a line that draws inspiration from the cosmos – starbursts, constellations, and the grandeur of galaxies. Nikita used modern techniques, sprinkling tweed with Banarasi Zari and adding hand‑cut sequins, stones and metallic threads. Crystals and holographic materials finished the stardust effect, making the dress sparkle like the night sky.
During the show, Passi talked about her long friendship with Nikita. “We’ve known each other for 7–8 years,” she told reporters. “I first saw her work at FDCI, and she’s since designed many outfits for me.” The fashion star praised the designer’s ability to blend glamour with wearability.
Passi also shared her mission beyond the runway. “When you set bigger goals, you must drive others to grow. Even if you’re under the weather, you must stand up and work,” she said. She highlighted the power of celebrities to spark change. “Celebrities can influence people with their voice; many use their platforms for causes close to their hearts.”
The “Beyond” collection highlights Nikita’s talent for texture. Her signature fabrics feature hand‑woven Zari, sequined accents, and metallic threads that echo stardust. Crystals and holographic finishes add a cosmic glow, capturing the galaxy theme.
As Passi walked the Lakme Fashion Week carpet, the audience saw how fashion and philanthropy can intersect. Her partnership with Nikita Mhaisalkar showcases a fresh, modern style that turns everyday wear into something out‑of‑this‑world.
