Mumbai: Actress Lara Dutta Bhupathi laughed about a recent work photo shoot, noting that collaborating with her tennis-player husband, Mahesh Bhupathi, is always enjoyable—but coaxing him into a genuine grin for the camera? That’s a whole new ball game.
On Instagram she posted a series of snaps of the couple side by side, both wearing matching black outfits and flashing bright smiles toward the lens. “Working alongside my husband @mbhupathi is a pleasure…getting him to smile for a photo though? That’s a whole different story!” she wrote.
The couple tied the knot in 2010, married the following year with a civil wedding in Mumbai and a Christian ceremony in Goa. Two years later, they welcomed daughter Saira Bhupathi into the world.
Lara first rose to fame by winning Miss Intercontinental in 1997 and Miss Universe in 2000. Her Bollywood debut came in 2003 with the film Andaaz, and she quickly became a staple in hit comedies such as Masti, No Entry, Bhagam Bhag, Partner, Housefull, Chalo Dilli, and the action‑thriller Don 2.
After a brief hiatus, she turned to television, appearing in the British drama miniseries Beecham House and taking on the role of Indira Gandhi in the film Bell Bottom. More recently she has featured in streaming projects like Hundred, Kaun Banegi Shikharwati, and Ranneeti: Balakot & Beyond.
Her latest film appearance was in the 2021 period thriller Bell Bottom, starring Akshay Kumar with Vaani Kapoor and Huma Qureshi. The story draws inspiration from real‑life hijackings in India during the 1980s, including incidents involving Indian Airlines flights 423, 405, and 421.
Looking ahead, Lara is set to headline the comedy Welcome To The Jungle, directed by Ahmed Khan. The ensemble boasts a roster of big names, from Jackie Shroff and Akshay Kumar to Sanjay Dutt, Suniel Shetty, Arshad Warsi, Raveena Tandon, Disha Patani, Jacqueliene Fernandez, Shreyas Talpade, Aftab Shivdasani, Paresh Rawal, Johnny Lever, Rajpal Yadav, Krushna Abhishek, Kiku Sharda, Daler Mehndi, Tusshar Kapoor, Mika Singh, Mukesh Tiwari, Zakir Hussain, Yashpal Sharma, and Sayaji Shinde in key roles.
