Rains, cloudy skies bring winter chill to Jaipur; dense fog alert issued for several districts

Jaipur, Nov. 28 (LatestNewsX) – Rajasthan saw a change in weather over Friday when a light rain and a cloudy sky turned the city into a cooler, wintry one.

The Meteorological Department has put out a heavy‑fog warning for several districts for the next 48 hours and warned that a cold spell could hit parts of the state at the start of December.

Officials noted that districts in the Ajmer, Jaipur and Udaipur areas could receive light showers or drizzle all day. A western disturbance that crossed the state on Thursday lowered the maximum highs, while cloud cover lifted minima slightly.

Radheyshyam Sharma, director of the Jaipur Meteorological Centre, said moderate to heavy fog is likely in southern and eastern Rajasthan on Nov. 29 and 30, triggering a yellow alert.

“On Saturday and Sunday we expect moderate to dense fog in some southern and eastern parts of the state. During the first week of December, north‑westerly winds will pick up, dropping overnight lows by 3‑4 °C. A cold wave may develop in the Shekhawati region,” Sharma said.

The cloudy conditions on Thursday lifted nighttime temperatures in several cities. Mount Abu stayed the coldest at 5 °C, Fatehpur hit 7.2 °C, Sikar jumped 8.5 °C to reach 12.5 °C—up from below 5 °C the day before—while Nagaur rose 5.8 °C to 11 °C.

Daytime highs were kept low by the cloud cover: Jaipur, Ajmer, Udaipur, Churu, Pilani, Bhilwara and Karauli all stayed under 26 °C. Karauli was the coldest during the day at 24.8 °C, closely followed by Ganganagar (24.7 °C) and Ajmer (24.6 °C). Barmer was the warmest district, registering 30.2 °C.

The Meteorological Department cautions people to drive carefully in fog‑affected areas and to prepare for further temperature drops in the days ahead.
