Mumbai, Oct 25 — Actor Manoj Bajpayee celebrated the 22‑year anniversary of his film Pinjar, the historical drama that earned two National Film Awards.
Bajpayee posted memories of the Chandraprakash Dwivedi‑directed film on Instagram. “It’s a film that has a special place in my journey,” he wrote. “Even though it didn’t get mainstream awards, it won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film on National Integration and a Special Jury Award for me.”
The film tells the story of a Hindu woman abducted during India’s Partition, forced into marriage, and left to build a new life in a new country. The story is based on Amrita Pritam’s Punjabi novel Pinjar, which highlights the human cost of the Hindu‑Muslim divide that shaped the subcontinent.
Pinjar first hit screens on October 24, 2003. It received critical acclaim and earned praise for its powerful storytelling, strong performances and music by Uttam Singh. The film also features Urmila Matondkar, Sanjay Suri, Sandali Sinha, Priyanshu Chatterjee, Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Isha Koppikar and Farida Jalal.
Bajpayee thanked the entire team, the audience and the cast, adding, “The love the film still receives means a lot. Grateful to everyone who made this journey so memorable.”
The release, backed by Lucky Star Entertainment, remains a key milestone in Indian cinema history, reminding viewers of the lasting impact of partition and the importance of national integration.
