Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has stepped in with condolences and financial support for families hit hard by two recent tragedies in the state.
In the first incident, three family members drowned at Sulerikattukuppam beach in Chengalpattu district. On September 28, 2025, a group of 17 people from Agaram in Perambur headed to the beach for a day out. But strong waves swept away Venkatesan, 36, and his daughters, 17-year-old Karthika and 16-year-old Thulasi. Rescue teams searched tirelessly, and officials recovered the bodies on September 30, 2025.
Stalin shared his shock and grief over the drowning tragedy on social media and in an official statement. He announced Rs. 3 lakh each from the Chief Minister’s Public Relief Fund to help the grieving families get through this tough time.
Just days earlier, another heartbreaking accident shook the state at the Ennore Thermal Power plant construction site. A massive steel arch collapsed, killing nine workers and injuring one. The victims hailed from Assam and nearby areas, and they were building the plant for BHEL company.
Stalin posted on X about his deep sadness, calling it a devastating loss for the workers’ families. “I was deeply saddened to hear that nine workers from Assam lost their lives in this accident,” he wrote. He ordered Rs. 10 lakh in compensation for each family and made sure arrangements were in place to send the bodies back home safely.
Dr. J. Radhakrishnan, Chairman of TANGEDCO, confirmed the details to reporters. “A steel arch fell at the Ennore site, leading to nine deaths and one injury. BHEL teams are on the ground, and police are investigating the cause,” he said.
These responses highlight Stalin’s quick action in supporting families after the Chennai-area drowning incident and the Ennore power plant collapse, as authorities continue their probes into both events.
