Karnataka Deputy CM D.K. Shivakumar offers his condolences on the passing of KGF actor Harish Rai

The popular Kannada actor Harish Rai died early on November 6 in a hospital in Bangalore. He had been fighting thyroid cancer that had spread to his stomach, according to reports.

A week before his death, Harish spoke to the media about the high cost of his treatment. He said a single injection cost him Rs 3.55 lakh, and a full cycle of three injections over 63 days ran to ₹10.5 lakh.

His death has been mourned by fans and colleagues alike. Karnataka’s Deputy Chief Minister, DK Shivakumar, posted his condolences on X (formerly Twitter). “The passing of Harish Rai, the renowned villain of Kannada cinema, is a great loss,” he wrote. “His work in films like Om, Hello Yama, and both chapters of KGF captivated audiences. I pray his soul rests peacefully and wish strength to his family during this painful time. Om Shanti.”

Harish Rai was best remembered for his memorable villain roles, especially as Don Rai in Om and as Chacha in the cult‑classic KGF. Over his long career he appeared in Kannada, Tamil, and Telugu films, including Samara, Jodihakki, Raj Bahadur, Sanu Wedds Geetha, Swayamvara, and Nalla.

Fans of Kannada cinema and Bollywood alike have sent their tributes, remembering the actor’s strong screen presence and the impact he left on the industry.
