Mumbai actress Mrunal Thakur is celebrating a big milestone—seven years since her Bollywood debut in the powerful film Love Sonia. The talented star, known for her heartfelt performances, shared an emotional post on social media, reflecting on how the movie changed her life and inspired real-world change.
In her touching note, Mrunal wrote about her journey from a small-town girl with big dreams to landing the lead role of Sonia. "7 years ago, life surprised me with the most unexpected gift: Love Sonia," she shared. "I was just a small-town girl with big dreams in her heart, and somehow out of thousands, Sonia chose me. That film wasn’t just my debut… it was my first step into a world where cinema could change lives."
She opened up about the nerves she felt on set, surrounded by Bollywood legends like Demi Moore, Freida Pinto, Richa Chadha, Manoj Bajpayee, Rajkummar Rao, and more. "I still remember the nervous excitement of being on set… each one teaching me something new every single day. I felt like the tiniest fish in a vast ocean, but their kindness made me feel like I belonged," Mrunal added. She gave special shoutouts to director Tabrez Noorani, who motivated the team by saying, "No matter what happens commercially, we must be proud of the lives this film saves." Mrunal also thanked producers David Womack, activist Ruchira Gupta, and those fighting human trafficking every day.
What makes Love Sonia so special? The film goes beyond entertainment—it sparked awareness about human trafficking, inspired NGOs, and even helped save lives. "Even today, people still reach out after watching it, and my heart fills with gratitude," Mrunal said. She credits the movie for giving her courage, a voice, and a family in the film industry. "I owe everything to this film. Sonia gave me courage, gave me a voice, and gave me a family in cinema. Here’s to carrying Sonia in my soul and to many more stories that heal, inspire, and make a difference."
For those new to the story, Love Sonia follows a young girl named Sonia whose world shatters when she runs away from home after learning her debt-trapped father sold her sister. Trapped in the dark world of human trafficking, Sonia fights for survival. Released in 2018, the film highlighted the harsh realities of sex trafficking and earned praise for its bold storytelling.
Mrunal’s Bollywood journey started with Love Sonia, but she’s been in the spotlight for over a decade. She first gained fame on TV with her role as Bulbul, the younger sister of lead character Pragya (played by Sriti Jha) in the popular show Kumkum Bhagya. Since entering films, Mrunal has starred in hits like Super 30, Sita Ramam, and Hi Nanna, proving her versatility and charm. Fans love her for bringing depth to every character, and her latest reflections show why she’s one of Bollywood’s rising stars.
