Nafisa Ali Shares Emotional Health Update: Back to Chemotherapy After Cancer Diagnosis

Veteran actress and politician Nafisa Ali, known for her inspiring journey in films and politics, opened up about her ongoing battle with cancer on Tuesday. Diagnosed with stage 3 peritoneal and ovarian cancer in 2018, the 67-year-old shared that she’s resuming chemotherapy since surgery isn’t possible right now. Her candid Instagram post touched many hearts, highlighting her love for life amid the challenges.

In the emotional update, Nafisa posted a heartfelt quote about family bonds. It read: “One day my children asked, ‘Who will we turn to when you’re gone?’ I told them, ‘Turn to each other. That is my greatest gift – siblings who share the same love and memories. Protect one another, and remember: your bond is stronger than anything life can bring’.” She captioned it simply: “A new chapter in my journey from today. I had my PET scan yesterday… so back to chemotherapy as surgery is not possible. Believe me I love life.”

Nafisa Ali’s story is one of resilience. She started as a national swimming champion from 1972 to 1974. In 1976, she won the Eve’s Weekly Miss India title and represented India at the Miss International pageant, finishing as second runner-up. That paved the way for her Bollywood debut in 1979 with Shyam Benegal’s Junoon, opposite Shashi Kapoor.

Over the years, Nafisa shone in several memorable films. She starred alongside Amitabh Bachchan in Major Saab, and appeared in Bewafaa, Life in a… Metro, Guzaarish, and Yamla Pagla Deewana. She even ventured into Malayalam cinema with Big B featuring Mammootty. Her latest role came in 2022’s Uunchai, directed by Sooraj Barjatya, where she shared the screen with stars like Amitabh Bachchan, Anupam Kher, Boman Irani, Parineeti Chopra, Neena Gupta, Sarika, and Danny Denzongpa.

Beyond the silver screen, Nafisa Ali made her mark in politics. In 2004, she contested the Lok Sabha elections from South Kolkata but didn’t win. In 2009, she ran from Lucknow on a Samajwadi Party ticket after Sanjay Dutt’s disqualification due to a prior conviction. She rejoined the Indian National Congress that year, calling it a lifelong commitment. Later, in October 2021, she switched to the All India Trinamool Congress ahead of the 2022 Goa Assembly elections.

Fans and well-wishers have flooded social media with support for Nafisa Ali’s cancer update, praising her strength and positive spirit. As she steps into this new chapter, her message about cherishing life and family continues to inspire many.
