In Rajouri, Jammu and Kashmir, actor Nana Patekar stepped up with his Nirmala Gajanan Foundation to deliver real help to families hit hard by cross-border shelling. Teaming up with the Indian Army, the group handed out rehabilitation packages worth Rs 42 lakh to 117 families in Rajouri and Poonch districts. This came right after Operation Sindoor, when intense shelling left many in tough spots.
Nana Patekar sees this as more than charity—it’s a duty. “It is our responsibility to help when such incidents take place in the nation,” he told reporters. “They are our brothers and sisters. It’s a collective responsibility for all of us. We haven’t done any favor. This is what everyone should do.”
The Bollywood star didn’t stop there. He shouted out fellow actor-comedian Johnny Lever for his quiet philanthropy work. “People from our film industry do a lot for those in need but never come to the forefront. Johnny Lever is one of them. If we don’t do it, who will?” Nana said. He pushed everyone to pitch in for society instead of waiting on the government alone. “The government did a lot, but don’t depend only on them—do something yourself too. I feel satisfied when I become the reason for someone’s happiness.”
Nana also shared big hopes for the kids in the Pir Panjal valley. He wants them to shine in mainstream media, cricket, civil services, and beyond, breaking free from the hardships of border life.
On September 22, Nana and his foundation trustees visited Rajouri Garrison at 10 a.m. to oversee the distribution firsthand. The Indian Army and local civil administration backed the effort fully, focusing on border residents who’ve faced nonstop cross-border hostilities.
The Nirmala Gajanan Foundation, named after Nana’s parents, Nirmala and Gajanan, keeps pushing forward with education and healthcare projects across India. Since starting up, it’s joined forces with the Indian Army to adopt 45 Army Goodwill Schools in Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh. These steps show the foundation’s drive to lift up communities and create real change for those in need.
