Nawazuddin Siddiqui: The ‘real world’ scares me, like to stay in my film bubble

Mumbai, December 12 (LatestNewsX) – Bollywood star Nawazuddin Siddiqui, who has delivered a string of memorable performances, told LatestNewsX why he craves the life of cinema and feels uneasy in the everyday world.

“I found playing Jatil Yadav in Raat Akeli Hai – a very tense story‑line – to be a tough job,” he said. “But being inside those scenes felt great. The real world, for me, is often more frightening, so I escape into the film’s universe for the months of shooting and stay fully immersed in the character.”

When asked how hard it is to step out of such an intense role once the camera finishes rolling, Nawazuddin elaborated, “It’s not easy. I’m not the type who can toggle on and off instantly. After shooting for weeks or months, the persona lingers. I’m not just talking about the mood; the character is quietly in my head.”

He added, “Until the movie wraps, there’s a constant slight unease. Honestly, I wish I could detach, but I actually prefer to remain in character.”

Chitrangada Singh, who plays Meera in Raat Akeli Hai: The Bansal Murders, spoke about staying in the middle of a stormy performance.

“For me, the challenge was that the whole script is very dark – it deals with murders, investigations, and the people involved. It’s all very intense, so it’s hard to step out of that zone because you immediately have to get back into it. It isn’t a matter of the camera stopping and you just laughing or listening to music. None of us felt that way on set,” she explained.

She continued, “The director built an environment that keeps you emotionally engaged. On the drive home, I play music to break out a little. In the morning, when I get ready, I play music again to reel myself back into the feeling. Music helps me adjust my mindset. But keeping that intensity for long periods is exhausting. You can’t stay happy or sad forever. That’s why you need breaks to come back refreshed.”

Raat Akeli Hai: The Bansal Murders, a crime thriller, was directed by Honey Trehan and written by Smita Singh. The film also features an impressive cast, including Radhika Apte, Deepti Naval, Ila Arun Bajpai, Revathy Asha Kelluni, Rajat Kapoor, Sanjay Kapoor, Priyanka Setia, Shridhar Dubey, Akhilendra Mishra, among others.
