Netflix has pulled the plug on its gay‑military drama “Boots,” a decision that comes after the Pentagon publicly called the series “woke garbage.”
The show follows Miles Heizer as Cameron Cope, a queer teen from Louisiana who faces bullying while discovering purpose and brotherhood in a rag‑tag squad of recruits during the 1990s “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” era.
Premiering on October 9, the series was praised by critics and earned a 90 % approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes for its blend of humor and heartfelt exploration of masculinity and queerness.
Deadline first reported the cancellation on Monday.
In early October, Pentagon press secretary Kingsley Wilson blasted “Boots” as “woke garbage,” accusing Netflix of spreading an ideological agenda that he said fails to meet military standards.
Wilson also noted that under President Trump and Secretary [Pete] Hegseth, the U.S. military is “getting back to restoring the warrior ethos” with standards that are elite, uniform, and sex‑neutral—“because the weight of a rucksack or a human being doesn’t care if you’re a man, a woman, gay, or straight.”
