David Gilmour says he will never share a stage with former Pink Floyd bandmate Roger Waters again. The 79‑year‑old guitarist and the 82‑year‑old singer‑songwriter have been at odds ever since Waters left the band in 1985.
When reporters asked Gilmour what would need to happen for a reunion, he said simply, “Nothing. I would never do that.” He made the comment on the same day that the two rock legends were still separated by a long‑standing feud that fans and the press have followed for decades.
The dispute intensified in 2023 when Gilmour’s wife, songwriter Polly Samson, criticised Waters on the social‑media platform X. Samson accused Waters of antisemitism and other harsh allegations amid political tensions over Israel and Ukraine. Waters dismissed Samson’s remarks as “wildly inaccurate” and “incendiary.”
In 2024, Pink Floyd sold the rights to its music catalog and its name and likeness. Gilmour told the press that the sale was not a money‑making move, but a way to “get out of the mud bath” and end the endless internal arguments. He stressed that he wanted to avoid the hassles of decision‑making within the group.
Fans of the legendary psychedelic rock band can take heart that the current dispute will likely stay unresolved for the foreseeable future. The band’s legacy, however, remains strong, with the new rights deal ensuring that Pink Floyd’s iconic music stays in the hands of those who can best protect and promote it.
