Actor Dylan Walsh looked shaken and confused after his SUV smashed into two utility poles in Rumson, New Jersey, last month, with his family riding along. The 61-year-old star from the hit show Nip/Tuck was talking to police at the chaotic scene on August 17 when bodycam video captured the tense moments.
In the footage, obtained by TMZ, Walsh’s wife, Leslie, lies in the street as medics treat her chest injury. An eyewitness nearby tells an officer she caught part of the crash from her window. Crying echoes in the background, adding to the distress.
Police keep Walsh away from his damaged vehicle while they question him. The actor explains they’d spent the whole day in the sun at the beach. He admits to drinking earlier but says he’s not sure how the crash happened. When asked if he lost consciousness, fell asleep, or took medication, Walsh replies he was just “really tired.” “I was driving and it happened,” he adds. “I don’t know how that happened.”
Officers spot a cooler in the SUV packed with White Claw hard seltzers and other alcohol—one bottle looks open. Later, in the ambulance, a cop tells the Superman & Lois star they’re drawing his blood at the hospital to check for issues. If he refuses, they’ll get a warrant.
Walsh’s team says he suffered a stroke before the crash, and his blood alcohol level stayed below the legal limit. Police haven’t confirmed that detail. The SUV veered into oncoming traffic, hit one pole, then another. Inside were Walsh, Leslie, their kids Hudson (12) and Amelie (13), plus one other passenger.
Cops handed Walsh six traffic citations, including open container of alcohol, reckless driving, expired registration, failure to stay in his lane, unsafe lane change, and driving on a sidewalk. Two of the five people in the car went to Riverview Medical Center, but everyone ended up okay.
Walsh’s rep shared a statement soon after: “Over the weekend, Dylan Walsh and his family were involved in a car accident in Rumson. Thankfully, everyone is safe and has since returned home.” They thanked the Rumson Police, Fire Department, EMS, and hospital staff for quick help, plus The River Point Inn for support right after.
This crash came not long after Walsh lost his Nip/Tuck co-star Julian McMahon to cancer on July 2 at age 56. The duo played plastic surgeons Dr. Sean McNamara (Walsh) and Dr. Christian Troy (McMahon) for six seasons on the FX series. Days later, Walsh honored his friend in a heartfelt note to The Post: “Dear Jules, I know you like to flout the boundaries but this time you’ve gone too far. Let’s meet at the Biltmore, have a martini and we’ll talk this through.”
