Mumbai filmmaker Om Raut, fresh off the success of his latest production “Inspector Zende,” recently opened up about a key lesson he picked up from Bollywood icon Ajay Devgn. While chatting with during promotions for the film, Raut explained how Ajay taught him the art of trusting directors and giving them full creative freedom.
Raut stressed that stepping into the producer’s role comes with big responsibilities. “A director is always the captain of the ship,” he told . He shared fond memories of his early days directing “Lokmanya” and other projects, where supportive producers let him run with his vision. Now, as a producer himself, Raut aims to pay it forward by empowering directors on his films.
This marks Raut’s first venture into Hindi cinema, and he credits Ajay Devgn for his huge backing during the process. “I’m trying to learn from him and apply it in my productions,” Raut said. “My job as a producer is to stay in the background, enable the director, and support them fully so they can tell their story.”
Raut couldn’t hide his excitement about working with National Award-winning actor Manoj Bajpayee in “Inspector Zende.” He admitted feeling a strong urge to jump into the director’s chair while watching Bajpayee shine on set. But for the film’s greater good, he held back and stuck to his producer duties.
Fans can catch “Inspector Zende,” a gripping Bollywood thriller, streaming now on Netflix.
